How do you guys make figures stand? Like the Women figures, any of em, JLU, DCD ect.. I've tried the poster tacky stuff, but that doesn't really work, only on a few.

So, what do I need???

Yeah, this is a problem. For JLU, you could check eBay for some clear plastic stands. There's a variety of them, many of which are round with a single peg to place the foot onto. I don't have any myself, but I should probably consider them. Do a search for "protech figure stands" to see what I mean, or just check the following link:
50 Protech Action Figure Stands

As for DCD figures that already include stands, you might want to use some sort of sticky pad underneath the stand. I've had problems with these myself, but not too much.

Most of my displayed figures are DCDirect so I use the included stand. Fortunately the pegs are pretty universal across the line so you can mix and match the stands. I am really only using the street stands that came with the Dark Knight Returns and Batman Rogues figures. I don't really display that many of my figures.

Other than that, I would just use the poster stuff or scotch tape.

I like to arrange my figures so that the more unstable ones are using others for support. For example, the Hush Poison Ivy has no chance of standing on her own, so I have her just barely leaning against Killer Croc. She's still fully upright so it's not obvious, and I don't have to lose shelf space to display stands:

There are a few different ways that I use to stand figures.

1). I use ?steps? so I can layer them on the shelf, like a grandstand. These ?steps? are actually made for kitchen panties for cans and come in two different sizes. The base color is white and the set is two pieces with one sliding over the top of the other to expand the length. I painted some of mine silver for better effect.

2). I used Playsets for display pieces and stood the figures on them. I use different parts of the Playsets to support figures. The Joker is wedged in place on a ledge, Catwoman hangs over a balcony and Posion Ivy sits on another part of the Playset

3). I have bigger stable figures hold up thinner unstable figures. I put the unstable ones just behind the larger ones with a hand or arm bent just so it touches the bigger figure.

4). Lastly use the stands that came with the figures or use stands from other figures like the rectangular ones that came with the 3 ?? GI Joes. Those work well and take little space.

Nope, it's actually a light. It's about 2 ft long, plastic. It's lit so it has a glow to it in the picture. It was sold at K-Mart years ago. Another member, Inzo just bought one and posted pictures.

I think within those pictures lies the answer to questions posed (on another thread) about whether or not it's best to have things in the boxes or not.

That's an excellent collection, brilliantly presented.

I might see if I can find one of those lights on Ebay. I like it.

Those GI Joe stands do work pretty well. I can usually find a pose that works and is stable, but I had a lot of trouble a few years back with Teela from the 2002 Masters of the Universe line. She fell over if you looked at her. I just stuck one of those stands into one foot, and it solved the problem. I also use the little trick mentioned above where you slightly lean an accident-prone figure against a more stable one for support. The playset-as-display works well, too. Using the 2002 Castle Grayskull, I was able to stand up even the most problematic MOTU figures by placing them up in the rafters, where they had pieces of the castle wall for support.

For the figures that are unstable, but don't have foot holes, have you guys ever drilled a hole into the foot. I have a couple that I would like to do that to, but I am concerned with messing the figure.

I haven't done that specifically, but I drilled holes in Hush Catwomans legs when I did the custom a while back. The material is very easy to work with, and you should have no problems as long as you don't use a high-speed motor tool.

Thank You.

My major problem is Dust. I think the next bookcases I use will have clear doors on them so I can have foam behind the doors to seal them up a bit. That may help the dust issue. On the Top Shelf, I might use an upside down Fish Tank to seal out the dust.

Ye Gods, is dust ever a huge problem. Before I took most of my displayed figures down(due to space issues), I had a small portable air compressor I would use to blow the dust off once a week. As long as I didn't use a lot of pressure, it rarely knocked any of the figures over, and it saved all the time it would take to individually dust off each figure.

Spencer and FlaBat have some nice photos for the leaning technique. I don't know why I didn't mention it in my first post; I do that technique all the time with my figures.

But with using their display bases, you're much more limited. Besides what I've already stated, the knee articulation can really take a beating (or loosening) with figures that keep leaning and falling off their bases, as some like to gradually bend until the finally fall over. My 1st Apearance Robin is proof of that. So aside from restricting the display base, you may want to wedge some sticky tac or even some hot glue into the figures' joints to sustain the pose that they can hold up with. Hot glue is obviously more solid than tac but shouldn't hurt the figure should decided to peel it back off (might want to be careful around light paint applications though).

I haven't tried that specifically, but I've done all sorts of grinding and drilling for custom jobs. So with most figures, you should be able to do that without a problem since legs are usually a nice, solid plastic.

Yeah, I'm finally starting to clean up and rearrange my collection. Last night, I spent over an hour just wiping off dust that's collected over the last three years or so. And I'm just getting started. It doesn't help that a vent goes directly into my room from the basement wood stove. We've even had accidents where the chimney wasn't connected and my room got full of smoke. I'm trying to get more glass cases and such rather than having everything out in the open.

Yeah, dust is the reason why one of the main items on my Christmas list this year is "display cases." Dusting figures is fiddly work, but relatively safe (I use a Swiffer for larger surfecs, and a makeup brush for little stuff)...model paint jobs need more delicate yet thorough cleaning, since their paint & tiny parts often hold dust and risk scratching if you're too rough.

My dad's got a fantastic 3 tier, mirrored cabinet with sliding glass doors. It's actually a cheap 70s piece of furniture thats done up to look art deco like (it sounds ghastly when you put it like that, but it's strangely attractive - and it certainly wouldn't be cheap now!).

It's about 4ft high, with 3 glass shelves; each about 1ft x 3ft. It would be PERFECT for my Batmobiles - but he won't let me have it!
