We had our second (and final) Christmas last night at my grandparents'. I got a neat Batman shirt with a roughed up '70s comic logo. I got plenty of other neat items including an old '66 Batmobile license plate, two '66 ceramic white mugs, The Batman Laptop (for my future child *shrug*), CDs, JLU Season 1, and Batman Beyond: ROTJ Uncut.
This may be a bit late, but I thought this was too good not to share. As for the whole "Happy Holidays" commotion people have been griping about, here's an excerpt from a satire book my brother got entitled Welcome to Jesusland! Formerly the United States of America:
What to Say When Confronted by Someone Rude Enough to Wish You a "Happy Holiday."
"Pardon me, but who the H-E-double-L do you think you are muttering your saccharine, inclusive good wishes to me, an Evangelical Christian? If you can't have the decency to specifically acknowledge my personal brand of faith, you can kindly shut your evolution-espousing hanger you call a mouth!"
Hope you had a Happy Holiday, and have a great New Year!

I don't understand that - am I being dim? Is this an Americanism that's not made it's way over here?

I suppose that does sound rather strange out of context, doesn't it? It's part of the annual New Year's Eve celebration in Times Square, NYC. On top of one of the buildings is a giant sphere with lights & crystals all over it that is lowered at the stroke of midnight to signal the beginning of the new year. It's a traditional event, and over a million people go to Times Square to see it. Here is a more thorough explanation. |

1 million people in the same place - bloomin' hell, thats a lot!
How far "Upstate" are you Spencer? Couldn't you have gone?? Or is it just not worth the hassle? - I find things like can be better on TV!

First of all I wondered what you were on about!! Return Of The Jedi Uncut? Does he mean "original theatrical"??? I've never heard of Jedi uncut.
Then it dawned on me what ROTJ stands for on a Batman board (too many years of searcing for Star Wars figures on Ebay must've blinded me!)
I've bought ROTJ 3 times now - each time I end up with the edited version - last time I even checked with the stupid seller that it was uncut! "Yeah, yeah, yeah" said he. It wasn't! Fortunately it's not that common here so I usually get back what I paid for it on Ebay.

Man my wife is ticked. We were going to spend New Years home alone watch a movie or 2 then watch the ball drop....Etc....
Well because of all the towns near us running the FD's on light crews. I got a call to go in to a fire 3 towns away (It;s more like a small city there) Well I went in a 9:00 and came home at 3:00. My wife sat home alone. I did get a chance to call here at 12:00 but she sounded like "Yeah Happy whatever" It hurt me too. I feel horrible that I put duty first. Oh well what can you do?

I'm referring to Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker: The Original, Uncut Version. It's slightly more violent with a PG-13 rating and has a few other more adult themes. Still gotta sit down and watch it...

Although, Star Wars: Return of the Jedi is in my top favorite films of all time. And I have the final Original Trilogy VHS release anyway.

Then again, we'll get another in about 364 days. My brother and I were watching a program on human brain development on the Science Channel and tuned to the ball drop right as it happened. We didn't care much really.

Hey all, it's 07 and it still feels like 06 to me.
Anyway, I rang in the New Year with a marathon of House M.D.
And why are there so many frickin' B-days today?

I noticed that too - probably just because we've got a lot more members now. & in a world of pro-rata mathematical equality* , with 1231 BatmanYTB'ers, we'd have 3.372602739 members birthdays each day.
I dunno who DarthMaul is (at least in BYTB terms), but I quite like the name (& happy birthday).
I'm gonna go and watch Vicar Of Dibley.
* just made that up, I'm bored

Sorry to hear about the rough nights, JasterBull and bluebeettle22; I hope things are starting to look up.

We're about 2 1/2 hours north of the city, but that's way too many people in one place for me. I've always been happier here in the country, and my wife got her fill of city living when she was younger. |
