With 52 ending, DC has a new weekly series planned. Its called Countdown. What is it about? well we don't know. But it seems to be the centerpiece for the teaser image that you can find in this thread:
http://www.batmanytb.com/forum/viewthread.php?forum_id=67&thread_id=2046
The new series is set to start in May. Which wasn't in the solicitations released last week of Feb. 12th. Most likely due to secrety.
Oh, and one of the primary writers for Countdown happens to be fan favorite Paul Dini.

If the numbering going down looks familar, thats because they used this back in the mid-'90s for Zero Hour.

There have been rumors of a follow-up to 52. This is a pretty good idea, but I wonder if there will be a 0 issue like the Zero Hour miniseries (which was said in early interviews with Didio to have ties to Infinite Crisis, but nothing has really turned up yet).
Hopefully there will still be the lower price point for the issues because I was looking foward to a little relief on my pocketbook.

No, its still 2.99. The 4.50 you see is for the Previews book.

Here's a clearer version of that Countdown image:

Looks like we already know now who is surviving 52.

52 has been $2.50 an issue. It bugs me that they are raising the price for the "sequel."
I guess that this will be the year with Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, but a year with other heroes too. Bad joke from the 52 tagline, couldn't resist.

Paul Dini was interview by Wizard Maagzine about Countdown. Take a look:

Starfire made it through! I was beginning to fear for her future as 52 started to wind down.
This sounds like it'll be a great series, and it seems like it'll fullfill an important purpose (DCU spine)
Mary Marvel's story is being pumped up as one to watch, and "Seduction of the Innocent" makes me wonder what they've got planned.
Also, the Atom on his way back? yay!

The first (or 51st depending on how you look at it) issue hit stands this week. It was a really good issue that has similar pacing to the 52 series. Most of the things mentioned in the ads that have been going for a few weeks were begun. I would recommend this if you enjoyed 52.
SPOILERS BELOW
There is a small part with Darkseid. He has a chess board with the players as DC heroes and villains. He plans to take steps to remake the universe in his image.
the majority of the issue focused on the Red Hood fighting Duela Dent. The fight is interrupted when a Monitor appears and kills Duela because she is from another universe and does not belong there. A second Monitor appears and tells the first that he is out of line, but the first argues that there is no law governing them and many of the others would agree with his actions. Both disappear leaving Red Hood looking over the dead Duela Dent.
One of the Monitors (possibly one of the ones from before) stands before the Source Wall (which apparently is the divider between the Multiverses). He asks what is coming, and the wall replies "The Great Disaster," something that was alluded to in the old future post-apocalytic Earth comic Kamandi. The Monitor asks who can help to stop the Disaster. The reply comes, " Ray Palmer."
There is also a brief scene with Mary Marvel, who is still powerless, but out of her coma. Freddy Freeman (Marvel Lad) paid her doctor bill, but does not want her to look for him. She tries again to become Mary Marvel, but the magic word still does not work.

I don't know if anyone picked up Countdown #21 or Countdown Arena this week, but both featured a Batman Beyond-style Earth in them (Earth 12). Countdown had a appearance of someone in a Batman Beyond costume fighting some Jokerz. Then in Countdown Arena the Monarch abducted a Green Lantern who is the decendent of Hal Jordan. Pretty cool couple of scenes
