PLOT:
After following subtle hints and leads for what seemed like ages, Black Adam finally bursts into the lair of the treacherous Felix Faust. There he discovers his beloved wife Isis lying in a trance at Faust's feet.
Black Adam had once turned to Faust in an attempt to resurrect Isis after she was murdered by the Four Horsemen. Unfortunately,
Faust tricked Adam into believing that the resurrection was a failure and that Adam was to
blame. In the time since, Faust has been keeping Isis in a magical trance while he sought out the right spell to
convince her to love him.
Naturally Black Adam is not pleased by this discovery in the least. He orders that Isis be freed from her trance which Felix Faust obliges. Once she is re-awakened Black Adam witnesses that his beloved wife has come back
in search of vengeance and she plans on starting with Faust.
A short time later and now "a couple cards short of a deck", Faust finds his way to Dr. Fate's Tower. Al Rothstein (Atom Smasher) witnesses this and immediately rushes to report Black Adam's return to his former
teammates in the Justice Society. When he arrives at their Battery Park headquarters, the Society is in the midst of a meeting to decide what to do in response to the Gog debacle.
Alan, Jay, Ted, Pieter and Courtney decide that Hawkman is to be put on temporary hiatus from the team due to his participation in the splinter group that had sided with Gog. Insulted by the punishment, Hawkman declines and
resigns from the Society. With Hawkman gone, the team decides to also excise Amazing-Man, Mr. America, Citizen Steel and Magog who are all attending to personal matters at the time anyway. Staying in the group will be
Lightning, Damage, Judomaster, Hour Man, Liberty Belle, Wildcat and Cyclone. As Hawkman storms out, Atom Smasher walks in and after asking the team for one more shot, they accept him back on.
At the Rock of Eternity, Billy Batson is bored out of his mind with his new duty of guarding the Rock. When Isis arrives, Billy is surprised and delighted to see her alive once more, but when he gets up to greet her he is attacked
by Black Adam! Adam incapacitates the Wizard while Isis retrieves the necessary spell from one of the ancient texts. As Billy lay on the ground, Isis revokes the power of Shazam from Billy,
consolidating the power into one necklace that she places around her neck. With that
power she plans on destroying those who would spread pestilence, famine, war and death. When the dust clears there is nothing left of Billy but a charred crater where his body once was.
De-powered, the teenage Billy Batson wakes up on the streets of Fawcett City. He immediately rushes to the home of his adopted parents Nick and Nora Broomfield where he summons the Justice Society. The JSA arrive wondering why on Earth
Captain Marvel would have brought them to this quiet suburban home. Pressed for time, Stargirl urges Billy to confess the truth. He agrees and the JSA is stunned to find out that the teenager standing before them is
the great and powerful Captain Marvel!
With Billy de-powered and Freddy Freeman busy "being a champion" the only member of the Marvel family left unaccounted for is Mary. Rumored to have fallen in with a bad crowd, Mary arrives
at the throne room of Black Adam and Isis and is given the choice - oppose them or join them.
