PLOT:
Black Adam and Isis have stolen the power of Shazam using the same amulet that once held Black Adam captive for centuries and are now holding the Rock of Eternity hostage. Isis wants to use the Rock's immense powers to crush the modern world and all of it's evils as retribution for the death of her brother Osiris. Although he is deeply troubled that the woman who once showed him the beauty of life is now displaying such an uncharacteristic vindictive streak, Black Adam abides by his love's plans.

Meanwhile, the JSA and the person formerly responsible for guarding the Rock of Eternity, Billy Batson are searching the Fawcett City subway station for the hidden magical entrance that will take them to the Rock. Using Green Lantern's magic ring to amplify whatever residual powers remain within him, Billy is able to open up the portal to the vortex between this world and the Rock. But as the JSA enter the hidden train station that will take them to Black Adam, a strange unassuming bum placed conveniently outside of the entrance tries to warn them not to go. The JSA however do not hear his pleas.

Surrounding the Rock of Eternity is a mist which possesses the supernatural ability to transport whomever walks through it to any location. It's pattern indecipherable, the ether like realm is almost a mind-boggling trap in and of itself. When the JSA arrives at the Rock, an angry Isis swoops down and throws Billy Batson into the vortex! Flash races to help Billy but is himself sucked into the trap. Atom Smasher leaps into action and is able to save Billy but a strange disconnected voice tells him to leave Flash be - warning that the Speedster is the only one fast enough to rescue "him" from his tomb.

Like the mist, the caves surrounding the Rock of Eternity are also a labyrinth of their own and although Billy is rescued he and Stargirl find themselves cut off from the rest of the group and lost. The teenagers' moments of privacy are soon put to an end when Billy's sister Mary Marvel arrives. Having been missing since the events of Countdown, Mary Marvel has once again succumbed to the luring power of the Black Marvel family. But something else has corrupted Mary Marvel and after knocking out Stargirl, Mary professes her plans for introducing Billy to this unknown evil as well.

Deep within the mystical tides of the mist, Jay Garrick races to get back to his team when he is called upon by a the same voice that spoke to Atom Smasher. He suddenly finds himself face to face with the ghost of Billy Batson's father - the man whose murder at the hands of Theo (Black) Adam would send Billy's life down the heroic path it is now on. Mr. Batson takes Jay by the hand and leads him towards something called the Rock of Finality.
