PLOT:
After finding out that he was actually the great-nephew of the original All American Kid (the oft-overlooked WW2 sidekick to the original Mr. America), this particularly industrious young boy set out to train himself so that he could assume the mantle. After arduous physical training, the Kid met up with the current Mr. America (Jeffrey Graves) and together they sought out the JSA to help train the boy further and turn him into a genuine hero. Given the JSA's reputation for training and readying young legacy heroes, this seemed like the perfect fit.

Upon arriving at the Brownstone and making his way to his room he's greeted by his new roommate - King Chimera, the son of World War 2 hero King Standish. The deeply sarcastic wizard seems none too pleased to be rooming with the winsome young lad but the two make due nonetheless. And as the two are situating themselves into their room upstairs, a new mystery is unfolding downstairs.

During a walk about the Brownstone, Jay Garrick discovered a peculiar egg-shaped item of unknown origin. Pitch black and without any reflective surfaces, it almost appears to be something derived from the JSA's security member Obsidian. His father Alan Scott queries the shadowy hero but gets no response - which is odd considering Obsidian (in shadow form) inhabits every square inch of the building. Upon further inspection, Alan Scott is shocked to find that the egg does not merely resemble his son but actually is his son - compressed and degraded.

However before the team can investigate further an alarm is sounded. It seems a small-time bad guy named Tapeworm is holding hostages downtown and refuses to let them go unless Wildcat makes an appearance. Strange only because Tapeworm is one of Robin's one-time rogues and to his knowledge, Wildcat has never had any interaction with him whatsoever. Nevertheless, the team heads out to do what they do best and save the day. Mr. Terrific offers to stay behind to examine Obsidian and keep an eye on the two new recruits.

Arriving alongside Wildcat, the JSA finds that Tapeworm too has brought along some backup. Suddenly the streets swarm with a great number of baddies - each of them it seems, hand-picked to counter-act the special abilities of the JSA teammates. Luckily Jay is able to swiftly move the hostages out of harms way before the battle ensues but it quickly becomes obvious that this is no longer a simple rescue mission. The Justice Society are now in the fight for their very lives!

Back at the Brownstone, Mr. Terrific is still terribly puzzled by the enigmatic egg. After running a diagnostic on it he decides to wait until Dr. Mid-Nite returns before performing any other tasks. When from out of nowhere, the All American Kid walks into the room with a knife! As if under some kind of mind control, eyes glowing red, he stabs Mr. Terrific in the back and leaves him to bleed out. All the while King Chimera remains oblivious in a trance like state of meditation upstairs. Could this be the final hour for the entire Justice Society?
