PLOT:
The Justice Society used to be more than just a super-group. They were a family. And now, if it weren't for Power Girl and the others stepping in, these two family members - Magog and Wildcat - would be tearing each other limb from limb. The entire team is shocked and appalled by what they see once Jay Garrick is able to salvage what's left of the security recording
equipment. No one can believe Billy Armstrong was capable of stabbing Mr. Terrific over a dozen or so times (not even Billy Armstrong). Yet the shocking revelation only serves to solidify Magog's stubborn opinion - the JSA's techniques are out of date, especially where recruitment methods are concerned. Black Adam? Alex Montez? Now the All American Kid! How many more psychopaths and murderers are they going to allow to join their ranks just because they happen to sport a legacy title before they learn their lesson?
The worst part is - not even the villains they were able to round up have any clue who they were working for. Everything, including the pricey contracts placed over each JSA member's head, was done through shadowy channels. And as it turns out, those that have met the person behind it all (such as Icicle, the ringleader's mouthpiece) wish they never had.
While the others are preparing to grill Billy Armstrong further, Jay decides to take time out to talk to Billy's roommate King Chimera. He wants to know just why somebody allegedly so smart would want to even join a team in the first place. The cocky wizard replies simply that despite his high IQ and eidetic memory, his expanded intellect allows him to realize that there are still things that even he does not know. And despite his unwillingness to "feign camaraderie" he seems eager to learn everything he can from the legendary heroes
Just then word arrives from the surgical chambers. And it isn't good. Despite all the best intentions of Doctor Mid-Nite, Green Lantern and even new-recruit Dr. Fate, the heroes have lost their patient. Mr. Terrific is dead.
