PLOT:
The Spear of Destiny has a long and storied existence since being used to pierce the side of Christ. Applied for measures of both good and evil, it's powers have cured the sick and the blind but also
corrupted even Earth's Mightiest Heroes under the control of Adolf Hitler. It's latest accomplishment -
severing the connection between the Spectre and Crispus Allen has
left the presence of the Spectre enslaved by Cain and Crispus only a corpse once more.
With fiery barbs wrapped around the neck of the Spectre, Cain orders his "dog" to attack Radiant, forcing her away from Montoya. Cain then attempts to kill
Renée with a powerful blast from the Spear but finds to his surprise that she is for some unknown reason immune to it's powers.
Nevertheless, Cain comes in closer, preparing to kill her using the blade itself instead of its' spectral powers but Huntress arrives just in time to save the day. Firing two bow shots through Cain's eye and tongue, Huntress collects
Renée and together along with the Radiant return to the protection of the church with Crispus's body in tow.
Once inside, Radiant refuses to divulge whether or not God truly has a plan for
what's to come. But she does impart the wisdom that Cain is in fact still human, his immortality only the side-effect of the mark placed upon him by the Spectre those ages ago. They decide that they must get the Spear from out of Cain's control but find themselves without someone pure enough to
resist it's corrupting nature.
Clarice steps outside once again and Cain begins to tempt her - asking for her to hand over her murderers to him so that he can enact the revenge God would not. When she defies him, Cain vows to hurt her but she replies that he does not have the power to defy God in that manner - otherwise he already would have.
With that said, Cain exposes the Spectre to the Anti-Life Equation, corrupting him and spreading the Anti-Life across the globe, stealing the God given freedom of billions. The Spirit of Mercy begins to weep while Cain stands and gloats.
